Questions our customers typically ask when they call about an ant infestation.
What causes ants to come into the house? - Answer: Ants are always foraging, looking for a food source. They travel everywhere and build nests or live close to where they easily find food
If I have ants - is that a sign of termite activity? Answer: No, but it does not mean you do not have termites either. See more at Termite Control for information on Subterranean Termites
What is the difference between an ant and a termite? Answer: Ants have distinct segments on their bodies or a pinched waist, termites do not. Ants are usually easily seen, Termites live most of their life in the dark. Oklahoma is a high infestation area for termites.
Do ants bite?... Answer: Some ants can sting, bite but very few are harmful. It is best not to handle them.
What different types of ants will I find in my area? Answer:
Pavement ants, odorous house ants, pharaoh ants, field ants, carpenter
ants and little black ants are most found in the Broken Arrow, Tulsa, Jenks and the Bixby, Oklahoma area
What are the signs to look for with an ant infestation" Answer: Sand piles, ant trails, sawdust or accumulating debris.
How would you apply your products to control my infestation? Answer: Methods differ with the type of ant and location of the nest. An inspection should precede the treatment if it's the first treatment being performed. Typically a barrier is placed around the perimeter of the property but all circumstances are different and the structure type must be taken into consideration.
Is the treatment harmful to pets or wildlife? Answer: No, applications are pest specific and products used have low mammalian toxicity. The product is placed where non-target creatures can't access them. For many buying a home in the Tulsa, Broken Arrow, Bixby or Jenks area requires a clear termite report. Lenders typically will require a clear termite inspection report. This report in Oklahoma is called the ODAFF1 and ODAFF2. The ODAFF1 is the report done by a termite inspection company such as EnviroTech Exterminating. This report is provided to the lender and will either show a clear report or a report requiring a treatment to be performed on the property. Certain requirements may be written in the report even if termites are not found. Some of these requirements may be due to wood to ground contact, excessive moisture and other conditions conducive to termites and or termite infestations.
The Oklahoma ODAFF2 is a follow-up report for homes that either termite damage, termites or wood destroying insects have been found or conditions conducive have been fixed. These forms sometimes can include a Moisture Damage Report if necessary.
Sometimes a report may call for a termite treatment even though a treatment may have done at some time in the past. If the home has evidence of damage, termites and a treatment was performed at some time then proper paper work should be available from the termite company that provided the service. If the owner/seller has kept up the warranty then the termite company that did the treatment will usually provide the clear termite certificate.
Sure in some cases, cash purchases a termite certificate may not be required but It is strongly recommended when purchasing a home in Tulsa, Broken Arrow, Bixby, Jenks or the Tulsa metro area that a termite inspection be performed. Oklahoma is highly infested with termites and usually it's not a matter of if but a matter of when they attack a home. A termite treatment can provide the protection needed to control these pests for many years to come.

Termite control and treatment in Tulsa, Oklahoma by EnviroTech Exterminating.
Recent dry weather and extreme heat have pushed termites in the Tulsa area deeper. These pests are responsible for severe structural damage to homes throughout the State of Oklahoma. Tulsa is in a high Termite activity area. Tulsa Termite Control and Tulsa Termite Treatment can be provided by many different pest control companies and EnviroTech Exterminating knows you have choices but before choosing, make sure to give EnviroTech a chance to earn your business.
How Termite Invade Tulsa area Homes
Exterminators are needed to treat homes for termites. Termites forage in the ground looking for food to feed the colony. They find food such as decomposing plants, trees and wood from construction. Cracks around a homes structure that lead to wood such as seen in the diagram, picture above offer everything the termite needs to thrive. Pipes coming from the ground into the structure, plate and support boards on concrete, moist conditions in a crawl space. All these provide termites everything they need and want. Worker termites can easily find food to feed the colony and the queen termite. If this was a home in Tulsa like so many homes here with termites you can clearly see how the colony works it's way in and around the structure. Tulsa Termite Control and Tulsa Termite Treatment is needed in these cases.

It seems that over the last couple months the number of calls about Bed Bugs has increased. Bedbugs are a serious problem in the Tulsa area. Bed Bugs are spreading rapidly to many Tulsa area residents. This pest is nocturnal and is much more active at night. Bed Bugs take advantage of the human host by detecting the carbon dioxide that humans exhale. This is why bed bugs are known to travel from room to room and can typically move over twenty feet in one evening.
Tulsa Bed Bug Control
Unfortunately we get calls fro potential customers that want to do treatment but they want to only treat a room such as a bedroom. This is a bad idea and typically I have to say there are companies out there that will simply come and treat one room knowing the bedbugs are going to be in more than one room. This is not the way to attack a Bed Bug issue. With Bedbugs you have to be ProActive and hit them hard. You cannot do a half a treatment or a partial treatment. Bedbugs will only be eliminated when the entire structure is treated and follow-up treatments are performed. Of course the customer, family with the bedbugs must also participate and do all the necessary things needed to help them gain ground against this nightmare pest.
Places Bed Bugs Hide and need Treatment
Bed Bugs don't simply go away. The work takes time and is labor intensive. You cannot do a full Bedbug treatment in an hour. It takes Hours to do this job even in a smaller two bedroom home. Bed Bug Covers are a necessity and the bed needs to be taken off the bed frame, frame ready for treatment. All light switch covers and electric outlet covers need to be removed and ready for treatment. Pictures, art and decorations on walls need to be removed from the walls. Many of these items will need treated for Bedbugs.
Tulsa is fast growing into one of the top Bed Bug cities. With this pest showing no slowdown in it's ability to spread, people with bed bugs need to be conscious of spreading them. Bed Bugs are likely leaving the home with you. Either bed bugs or bed bug eggs, nymphs will travel on clothing or shoes. This makes people with bedbugs a direct transporter for the bed bug moving from their home to another. Just sitting down somewhere with bed bug nymphs on your clothing can cause a new infestation. This is why getting a complete bed bug treatment is so necessary.
Bed Bug Control can be obtained with regular sanitation, treatment and conscious effort. If you are in the Tulsa metro area and are dealing with Bed Bugs consider EnviroTech Exterminating and their Expert Exterminators. EnviroTech has the knowledge and experience with Bed Bugs to help you, your home, your family and others with knocking BedBugs out!

Termites are highly social creatures and forage for food in the ground. It's late spring now and thousands of homes in the local Broken Arrow area have become infested with pests such as Black Widow Spiders and Brown Recluse Spiders, Silverfish, Ants, Cockroaches, Bed Bugs and other pests. Below is just a little helpful information to help curb your pest control issues. We hope they help!
Bed Bugs have become such a nuisance in the local Tulsa area but there are things can you do to help keep your home free of Bed Bugs. While there is no guarantee you will not get Bed Bugs simply changing habits can help. Inspect clothing and items before buying at garage sales and if you like shopping in thrift stores have the items placed in plastic bags and sealed before taking the items with you. All items should be properly inspected, disinfected and cleaned as soon as possible. Getting just a couple Nymph Bed Bugs in your car or on your clothing can be a future nightmare.
Use these same tips to help with keeping new Cockroach infestations from happening. Cockroach eggs can be present on items at garage sales and just bringing in a few can lead to a huge problem in the very near future. Cockroaches just like Bed Bugs can go without notice for months before you realize there is a problem.
With the mild winter and humid weather we have been seeing here in Broken Arrow, Oklahoma pests tend to thrive and infestation can come from any direction. Cockroaches are not afraid to take it outside and infest neighboring homes. If your neighbor has a Cockroach problem then it is very possible at some point the Cockroaches will find your home. Even trash being left out on the side of a home with Cockroaches can lead to a problem for neighbors.
Spiders such as Black Widows and Brown Recluse Spiders are usually a sign of another underlying pest control issue. Broken Arrow Pest Control tips suggest that pests such as Silverfish or other pests are usually present. Crickets, Waterbugs and other insect life are usually found in garages and Spiders thrive when these populations are present. Of course not all Spiders are bad Spiders but for the most part we don't want Black Widow Spiders and Brown Recluse Spiders present in our homes. Treatment is usually always necessary to get a foothold on this type of problem. A declining population of food for the Spiders means the Spiders will look for food in other places.
Some things you can do as the homeowner to help with your pest control in Broken Arrow.
1) Keep things tidy and clean
2) Don't leave food left out and clean dishes as soon as possible
3) Trash attracts insects like Flies and Cockroaches, Keep trash sealed and in a covered trash container till it can be picked up
4) Cluttered living environments are create pest problems. It's difficult to treat areas that are cluttered
5) Using Green, Organic products like Diatomaceous earth also known as D.E.,
diatomite, or kieselgur is a naturally occurring, soft,
siliceous sedimentary rock that is easily crumbled into a fine powder. It is effective in killing and controlling many household pests. 6) Keep your yard mowed and trimmed. Pests thrive in moist, grassy environments and if your yard is a field your attracting pests like Field Mice or other Rodents, Black Widow Spiders, Brown Recluse Spiders, Cockroaches and a whole slew of pests. It's like inviting the bugs, pests on in. Insect populations are typically higher in areas that are not maintained regularly 7) Obtain plants that bugs, insect pests don't like. Rosemary, Mint and a host of other natural plants, herbs and trees have natural defenses against many pest bugs.
Hopefully these pest control tips will help some with your pest control needs. Give
Bugs The Shrug! 5 ways to de-bug your garden safely
If you're a gardener in any
capacity, professional or just mucking about hopefully in the dirt, this has
happened to you on more than one occasion; you’re armed with you trusty basket,
you’ve donned your best sun blocking hat and you’re ready to pluck the best
offerings the earth you’ve toiled has to offer when…with a slight squint…you
spot them. Holes. Withered bits. Large chomps bitten into the fruits and
vegetables you’ve waited so long to enjoy. Upon further scrutiny, you’ll
discover the perps…bugs! Be it in New York or Houston, pest control for your
garden has now become a desperate necessity.
How
Can I Thwart This Attack?!
Don’t be crestfallen if it’s come to
that, however. Some more novice gardeners feel that bugs are a sign of failure
to their craft, but it’s quite the contrary. Bugs are feasting on your fare
because they are healthy, verdant, juicy and delicious. Pat yourself on the
back…your crop’s tops! But while bugs in your troughs are a sign of quality,
it’s a sort of “thanks, but no thanks” situation. It’s time to kick ‘em out!
Try our top tips to boost your
produce and get rid of your unwanted buggy visitors:
1.Bubble
your bugs – no deed to dish out for the super fancy stuff, because you
won’t be using a whole lot of it, but a simple dishwashing liquid and water
solution is surprisingly effective. Just like the soap breaks apart oil and
grease on your wares, so will it dissolve tiny bug’s protective waxy coating.
In a short time they’ll be coating-free, dry out and die. Use a 1:10 ratio (1
part soap to 10 parts water) and spray directly on the bugs. Especially
effective on aphids, they’ll think you’re bathing them and won’t even see it
coming.
2.Save
the earth with some earth– Isn’t it wonderful when the best solutions
are natural? This one might be a mouthful but trust us, it works – Diatomaceous
earth powder. This is a safe, non-toxic powder that is moderately granular to
human touch but to slugs and other truant crawlies is like doing the worm on
shards of broken glass. One crawl over this will have them biting the dust.
3.Trap
‘em if you can – Sometimes you have to be cruel to be kind. A clever
garden friendly ruse will save your produce this season and there are many to
choose from. Leaf-cutter ants have an almost diabetic addiction to the sugars
in leaves, stalks and branches but you can fool them with this explosive syrupy
concoction – a tablespoon of molassess mixed with a teaspoon of yeast is the
trick. Drizzle or smear this at the base of your plants or on freshly turned
soil to lure the ants out…they will feast a-plenty and then within a couple
hours, explode!
4.Fenced
in– some chicken wire,
wooden dowels and a pair of pliers is all you need to safely barricade your
crops from larger predators while allowing them to still enjoy the sun and rain.
Not as effective on bugs but a good trick for raccoons or bunnies!

I often get calls from people concerned about Bed Bugs. Most of these calls come from regular folks who brought home bed bugs from either a thrift shop, hotel or some other place. The truth of the matter is bed bugs are spreading everywhere at an alarming pace. Thought once to be completely controlled bed bugs have made a strong comeback. With our borders open and international flights bringing people from all walks of life to and from every major city in America bed bugs have been spreading like a plague. It's easy to see how this pest has made it's way into so many hotels and homes here in the local Tulsa area.
Bed Bugs
Bed Bugs require special treatments and attention when dealing with them. See the Bed Bug is a traveler and hitchhikes from place to place on your clothing, in your bags, on your body, even on your shoes. These pests have no boundaries and don't care of your rich or poor. They only care about one thing and that one thing is Blood. Bed Bugs require blood meals in order to molt and reproduce. This is why they hold a special place in our hearts. They are feared by so many because being bitten over and over by a blood sucking pest while sleeping is enough to cause sleep disorders and nightmares.
Just knowing the minute you fall to sleep bed bugs will start making way towards you to feed on your body is enough to cause sleepless nights.
Bed Bug Bites
Bed Bugs are quite frankly the worst household pest you can have. I'd rather live with a house full of Black Widow Spiders than bed Bugs. At least we are not the Black Widows preferred food. The Black Widow does not mean us harm. It's that sometimes we meet when we shouldn't that the Black Widow Spider bites. Bed Bugs on the other hand sense the very thing we exhale in carbon dioxide. This is how they sense us at night and this is what the use to know when your in bed asleep. These little blood suckers can move fast too when they know a meal is just waiting for them.
Places Bed Bugs Hide
Bed Bugs hide in the nooks, cracks and crevices of your home or apartment. They can even be found at work when an employee brings them to work! Bed Bugs can go without notice for some time. Only about half of their victims are allergic to the saliva of the Bed Bug so not everybody getting bites from Bed Bugs will even know they are being bitten. This alone is a scary thing because an infestation can really get out of hand fast without you even knowing bed bugs are in your home. The first signs you may see are black droppings on your bed or casings of bed bugs on the sheets or mattress.
Either way Bed Bugs require the work of a licensed pest control company. These bugs don't just leave willingly and it's a hard fought battle to win the war on Bed Bugs once they have made your home theirs. Typically the costs of doing Bed Bug Treatment or Control is expensive. It is labor intensive and requires the use of products that only a pest control operator has access too. You however are more important to winning this war than the pest control operator though. Preparing for the treatment is even more labor intensive than the actual treatment. You must prepare your home for treatment. This means you must move furniture, bag and wash, dry all clothing and not place the items back in drawers or closets. Every nook and cranny needs to be readily accessible for the pest control operator to do a proper treatment. If you do not prepare the property then the treatment will not provide the best results. Also, you must protect yourself and the home from reinfestation. Stay away from other properties with Bed Bugs. Was your clothing regularly and buy mattress and box spring covers designed to provide protection from Bed Bugs. If you do your part the pest control operator will do theirs and soon you will be sleeping comfortably without fear of vampires in the middle of the night.

I often get asked about bed bug control and how to treat for them. I hear the common questions all the time.
1) Does Heat really work?
2) Do Chemicals really work?
3) Do You Offer Follow Up Treatments?
4) How Did I Get These?
5) Is It Safe?
6) What About Preparing For Treatment?
Although these questions seem simple the answer can be quite complex. People can find just about anything on the internet. Some things true and some things not so true. You can find Pro's, Con's and so forth about Heat and Treating Bed Bugs with Insecticides. In some cases Heat is a great option and in some cases Heat may not be all that effective. There is also always the cost factor in dealing with Bed Bugs. Heat can be very expensive where using chemical treatment may be more cost effective. This does not mean that one method is better or worse. It just means there are more than one way to treat for Bed Bugs.
EnviroTech Exterminating has had a great deal of success with the treatment of bed bugs in various structure types, even dwellings such as crawl space homes. Keep in mind that crawl space homes are typically older homes with a large amount of gaps and hiding spaces for pests such as bed bugs to harbor. A crawl space home also provides an extra challenge in that the bed bugs can always retreat if using heat. These pests can easily make their way into the crawl space or gain access to the attic with so many entry points available to them. This simple problem makes using heat sometimes less effective on crawl space dwellings.
Heat is a great tool in that it kills the bed bugs it comes into contact with but getting the heat to rise fast enough to get a 100% kill ratio and kill all bed bugs and eggs in a structure is where the problem exists. Other issues where heat can be a problem is in mobile homes or apartment buildings with multiple adjoining structures. Many of these homes simply cannot have the temperature taken to what is necessary for the Bed Bug kill zone of the heat. Wires can melt, the plastics used in these structures can become toxic. Heat in these situations sometimes do more harm than good. In some cases heat can be a great solution and in other cases chemical treatment may be the best solution. It is something the homeowner must consider when dealing with bed bugs.
The cost factor: Heat is typically more expensive and even when heat is used some bed bugs can be missed, Why? Heat may not get all the bed bugs in dwellings like crawl space homes. Heat has tremendous knock down power but if any bed bugs escape or are missed then you likely spent well over $1000 to find out a few weeks later that you still have bed bugs. In smaller dwellings on slab foundations heat may work well but you also risk other problems such as walls cracking as the heat pulls the moisture content from the sheetrock.
Chemical treatment relies on pesticides designed for the control and treatment of bedbugs. The products are applied with the idea much like that of a Perimeter Termite Treatment where the Bed Bugs litterally have to come into contact with the product, pesticide to get to the host thus killing the Bedbugs and controlling the bed bugs. All this comes as a direct result of the bed bugs getting into the residuals left behind. It can take more time to get the bedbugs under control but the costs are typically lower and since a residual is present it may potentially get Bedbugs that Heat Treatment may have missed. Multiple Treatments or Follow-Up Treatments may be needed to assure that all bed bugs, nymphs, eggs are killed. Typically products such as an IGR or Insect Growth Regulator that reduce the chance of bed bug reproduction are used and with proper application and following your treatment programs instructions bed bugs can become a thing of the past.
With either method re-infestation can occur. Bedbugs are known for the ways they spread and if you have bed bugs then you likely got them from somewhere. If you continue to visit the same places then the bedbug problem you are dealing may return. No amount of heat or pesticides can fix the problem if you don't help the problem by making sure you stay free of places that may or do have Bed Bugs.
Bedbug control requires habit changes sometimes. Some people get them from simply going to a movie or sitting in a chair somebody with bed bugs had been sitting in. Or maybe somebody that has bed bugs had one fall off their clothing onto the floor and you just so happen to have stopped in the same area. These are all factors we all deal with and they require a conscious effort on our part to make sure we don't bring bed bugs in. Keep a clutter free environment and pay attention to any signs that may be present of any Bed Bug activity.
There are many ways to get Bed Bugs. Simply going to places that don't know a problem is present can be all it takes. Many people may not even know they have Bed Bugs as about half of people show no allergic reaction to the bed bug bite.
Clutter and keeping your home messy can also be a huge factor in the effectiveness of any bed bug treatment program. You can have all the heat and all the pesticides but if the home is cluttered and a mess then bed bugs will likely win the battle.
